This is written in a style I call coalesku – a “mixed media” haibun:
It blurs the (visual) separation of prose and haiku/monoku/senryu; though those can be read separately, they float into the lyrical prose. It makes use of figurative language, may contain every day language, drifting into the highly personal, yet shifting again and again into the universal.
At the same time it makes use of reverberation/echo, cut, and may even include kigo. The prose is also more than prose because it wins by the established breaks.
It can blur even more… by combining genres, reality and surreal images et cetera.
It walks a fine line between everything, and I must confess, after years of trying to fit in with my poetic voice it is an evening breeze in summer to hone the ‘not clearly belonging anywhere’. The total intuitive dipping into the ocean and the sky.
If you want to try it out, learn and know about what you are about to blur. This is no carte blanche to just write as you want. This is a mindful approach, call it a state of mind and heart. This is something like kokoro.
