It’s not without a sour aftertaste I’m sharing this with you. I believe this to be a powerful one-word senryu.
When the ‘I’ is removed from choice, there is no longer a choice possible, because no ‘choice’ is left. There is only ‘cho ce’. And: ‘There’s no I in choice.’ I am not the one choosing.
I have not ever written a poem that was so impactful, disturbing and moving, and I submitted it to an award (didn’t place). After that I submitted it again elsewhere (not taken). So I’m taking control over it and share it with you this way. I made it a haiga series.
What I have learnt from this: People will not always get the artistic idea and impact of a poem, but that doesn’t make the poem less good. I know it is. I just didn’t want it to be rejected another time. Instead I’m giving it what it deserves. It deserves to be seen.
